Thread: How long?

    How long?

I have recently read a study that you should only keep canned goods for 2 years. How long do you keep yours? I know I have found stuff in my cellar 5 years old and opened it up and it was plenty good for us.

I used to hear that you could keep them for several years, but recently someone told me that you shouldn't keep it for more than a year. The idea of canning goods was so that you would have seasonal fruit preserved to last throughout the year, and then the next year you start all over again. It seems to me, though, that my granny had way more cans in the basement than we could possibly eat in a year. I don't know if she meant for them to last for over a year, or if she made so much to give away, but even though we had a lot, she would still do it again every year.
