I am curious about this too, since my wife would really like to have a herb garden put in for her. I promised to till it and create a box style for her but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I am currently growing basil but I am growing it inside. I love fresh herbs and basil is one I use a lot of. If this works out, I will try some others. However spinach is a good outside crop for early spring and fall.
