    You really need to know what you're doing because if you don't attack those limbs in the right way and you damage your home, or a neighbor's, life won't be happy. I suggest trying that barter method, especially with today's economical climate. Call around and see what you can work out.

    Starting at the bottom with a small chainsaw that can be handled with one hand.
    Trim what is in the way and cut some branches as steps up as high as they will support your weight.
    Most of the tree will be on the ground by that time.
    Top it, and work your way back down on your steps cutting off 2 or 3 foot sections as you go.
