We have great water pressure when just cold water is running but when we run the hot water it is very low. This happens on every faucet in the house. We are thinking the hot water heater needs to be flushed but we have never done it before. How do we start?
Have you made sure that the valve to the heater is fully on?

Some of these say to use a garden hose. My experience is that the cheap light duty hoses will melt from the hot water so you may want to tunr the heater off and drain most of the hot water into a sink before trying to use a hose.
Yes the valve is fully on. We have a heavy duty water hose so I do not think that will be a problem. Thanks for all those links, they are very helpful.
You did not mention the age of your house. Galvanized steel pipe was common 50 years ago. Galvanized steel pipe will eventually fill with rust and mineral deposits causing low water pressure. This affects hot water pipe more than cold water pipe. This is not a problem with modern copper and plastic plumbing.
