    Turkey time

It is that time of year again. I have a turkey in the freezer ready to go. Does anyone remember how long it takes to thaw a turkey for each pound of the turkey? Do you suggest soaking the turkey in salt water before you cook it (after it is thawed)?

I always thaw in cold water a day or two ahead of time changing the water ever hour. Cold water with a little ice. Then stored in the fridge. I always thaw the bird in the wrapper it came in.
For the brine two cups regular salt and enough water to cover the turkey. Once again you need to keep the bird cool during this process so don't forget the ice. 24 hours in the brine. It's best to use a clean insulated cooler.

The Turkey I have have says on the directions it has to thaw for 5 to 7 days in the fridge or 12 to 15 hours in cold water. It`s a 23lb Turkey. I always go by the package directions.
