I was just wondering as I bought a couple today, if anyone know how the poinsettia got to be the plant of choice for Christmas? I don't even think they were original to the United States. It must be a good story.

I checked it out on the internet. It seems that a man named Joel Roberts Poinsett found this plant growing in southern Mexico. Many many years ago the Aztecs used it for a fever remedy. He started giving the plants he grew to friends and Botanical gardens. It was very interesting to read about. I`ve never thought to even check it out.
Perhaps because it blooms during Christmas time and the blooms, with the foliage reflect the Christmas colors, red and green? They make very pretty Christmas decorations though, don't they?
