We raise registered Boer goats. In years past we had done our breeding in mid-September for late February kids. Well, this past February was one of the coldest on record and, of course the kids all decided to be born on the coldest days.

After surviving that experience, without losing a kid, we decided to delay breeding until October for March 2012 kids.

Our fingers are crossed that the weather of 2012 will be a little more kind than 2011 has been. We have been feeding our winter hay supply since June and, of course the price of feed is up due to the drought. Our thoughts are that many breeders have cut back on their breeding programs because of these conditions and that the 2012 kid crop will be pretty sparse, making our kids more marketable. Got our fingers crossed.

If there are other goat breeders out there, give us your stories and experiences.
