10 years ago I had a selective cut of pine greater than 6" made. A lot trees were under the cull size and appear to have zoomed in size once the giants were removed. Is there an optimum period or size to reach before cutting again? I am in the coastal south.
I would contact a forester who can help you with that decision. You, or he, could cruise the timber and estimate the volume
of wood that would be marketable. Then you could get an estimate of $$$$ that you could expect. If you would establish some
plots and measure the growth each year, you could keep track of the growth, and when it starts to decline - that would be
the time to make the next cut.
