Pig Question

We are on our second set of pigs. The first two Pork and Ham did great and grew to be big uns. Bacon and Eggs are about 45 pounds each now and seem to be eating me out of house and home. I don't remember the first two eating as much but than with CRS my memory does get vague.

When I read about feed to ratio of pigs weight I really get confused. I feed them pig food and scraps from the house as goodies only not as a supplement to their diet, but NO meat. Can you overfeed a pig? Is there a simple formula for feeding them the right amount. I do mix water with their feed.

    Thanks

    Re: Pig Question

pigs are not glutons, but they are fierce competitors. If you raise a single pig it will not have near the weight gain of two or more.

Feed them just enough for the last pig to clean it all up.

I plan my weiners to finish them off in the fall from garden extras.

    Re: Pig Question

Pigs are intelligent animals. If you feed them free will they will only eat what they require. The number you are looking for regarding rationing their feed is 3% of bodyweight per day.
