The ruger 44 carbine is a great brush gun. Have deer hunted with it for over 30 years and never had any problems. Glad to see they reintroduced it in case I need a new one.
I knew Ruger had brought out a .44mag lever action that looks almost identical to the old auto-loader(except the lever of course). I was not aware they had brought the auto-loader back though.
I had always thought the Mini-14 would be a great .44 candidate. It would have to have a bigger bolt and all that, but that basic Garand design would be great.
I know years back people worked or .30 carbines to bigger caliber, but I do not know how suddessful they were.
