I'm building a 10x12 sugar house this summer and have alot of slate rocks that I have picked up on my property over the past 2 years. I would like to use them in the floor.
How would I do it? Do you put down loose sand and level the slate into the floor then fill in the cracks with more sand? Is there and easier way.
Thanks,
Al
Slate cuts easily with a masonary blade on a skill saw. It will also split very well along the deposition planes.
The bottom of the slate rock that is placed must be flat. If rounded even slightly it will never sit properly. Larger surface area pieces should be thicker as slate is not a strong rock.
I've tried some slate paving at a campsite. I'll try and attach a picture. The work is not of the best quality.
Nice camp site!!! Looks like what I tried to do around my fire pit for sparks. Hadn't thought about cutting it. Thanks for the tip. I'll send a pic if it turns out alright.
