It seems to me that you don't see the Shopsmiths as much as you used to, and I don't know whether they're still the quality that they used to be, but one of my employees had a sideline as a dealer for them 30 years ago and they were fine machines back then.
Thank you Bird & Dave.
I've seen their shows in the mall before but never had use for that kind of equipment.
Now I have more space and a current project has me needing a lathe. (rather buy the tool then spend $20 to let someone make for me)
I'll get more educated on them & their abilities now.

Finger-pickin' good!
Not sure you have done this or not, but I think they will send you a free VCR tape explaining all of the features of the ShopSmith.

They are now carried at SOME Lowe's locations.

Only if you have insufficient room for the individual tools.
Chances are you'll spend all your time revising the tool for the task at hand.

They're geared towards hobbyists more than serious woodworkers. A friend had one and used it for years but has recently moved to a stand alone cabinet saw as his projects have become more involved. Prices of the stand alone tools have really come down. The "American Woodworker" just did a program on a $1000 woodshop with all stand alone tools.
For me (a serious hobbyist with nowhere near enough time for it lately), I much prefer the stand alone tools. I can work back and forth between my table saw and my jointer for example as I prep stock. Setup a mortiser on my drill press and be able to leave it for later in the project while still having my table saw capability
