Does this picture bring back fond memories?

Well, it certainly brings back memories, since I've done that, but I'm not so sure about that "fond" part. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter, had to be done whether you were sick or well, etc.
Ah yes Bird, but just think of that friendly fly swater on the hot summer evenings.

You mean that fly swatter filled with cockle-burrs?
Yes, That's the one. Cockleburrs and?

...and usually full of crap and pee that of course slings all over your face when they swish the tail. And of course you got knocked on the head if Grandpa saw you wipe the crap off your face and go back to milking. **%$#### we've got to drink that milk!!!
Please, please CowboyDoc, there are people out there drinking milk!
Didn't mention having to make a quick bucket withdrawall when the cow hunched her back!
The joys of a bygone life.

Yep, Egon, you tried to move both the bucket and yourself and then when she stepped on your foot . . . .
There was a story about a guy tieing the cows legs in place and tieing the tail up out of the way after the cow had kicked the partially filled bucket over and swatted the guy in the face with the cucklebur and other (NATURAL) materials filled swatter, makiing him accidently kick the bucket over also.
This is a family oriented venue and the rest of the story goes beyond PG-13. Sufice it to say, it involved the purchase of a milking machine to avoid divorce.

"I'm not from your planet, monkey boy!"
Some people used spring clamps to keep the tails from flailing about as well as having the legs tied!
