We have a metal pole barn built ..it's 40x60 and we're finishing off about 1/3 of it into a living space. We want a window or two in it, but the wall we want the windows on is facing the woods, not a road, and we're afraid to put windows in for security reasons. Right now there are two garage doors and one metal entry door, but no windows on this barn. We have a dusk to dawn light that comes on towards the front end of the barn but where the windows would be it would be easy for someone to break in and not be seen.
I know, I know, if they want in they'll figure out a way, but we're afraid we're significantly increasing those chances by adding windows...however, this living space is our "weekend" space and it has lovely views and seams a sin not to put in windows for those views, let alone the natural light we'd receive...we really want windows so we're wondering what type are best (security wise) and if there's a way to better secure the windows or even disguise them somehow.
Any ideas, advice, or comments, please weigh in...thanks! Best windows for a metal pole barn??
You've got lots of options. Egon's idea is pretty good. A lot depends on how "fancy" the living quarters are. Is this area finished with drywall? If it's not and you're not concerned about "looks", you could put removable bars on the inside secured to the window framework that you just unlock and remove when you're there. Or install a security system. Do you have a phone line? Then it could be monitored.
We don't have a phone line..and don't plan on getting one...but...if we have to for the piece of mind...then maybe.
Re: the degree as to how we finish the inside ...ah...we're pretty anal..we'll be putting up and finishing drywall...it may be small, but it will be nice!
Do they make "metal shutters" that actually work (meaning you can close and lock them)?
