I have a young (2 month) Bull I would like to breed with my yearling heifer. At what age will the bull be able to git-r-done? Can I just turn them out together and let nature run its course, or should I keep the apart until he is ready.
We normally wait until our bulls are nearly 2 years old before turning them out. Also, we like for our heifers to be at least 18 months old if not close to the 2 year mark themselves. You run the risk of the heifer prolapsing on her first calf if she is too young or if the bull throws too large of a calf. What breed animals are we talking about?
Heifer is a galloway and the Bull is a dutch belted. The heifer is a little over a year older than the bull. We have some galloway/holstein cross beef animals that are excellent, but I want to breed her with something a little smaller for her first calf.
