Are there any historic sites near where you live? The south is famous for them. I am guilty of not checking out too many, even though there is a lot near me. I do enjoy taking my kids to the Civil War Museum in town. I was amazed at how much they knew about history!
There are but we haven't visited a lot of them. Strange, it always seems like we want to visit the historic sites when we go out of town, but we have never made a real effort to visit the ones closest to us.
We have a couple here in town. We laugh, though, because as soon as anybody comes to visit, we take them to the "Civil War Park" and it really isn't anything. It's a large field with a old plantation home, sometimes you can get in, sometimes not, and a cabin on it. The cabin was used by US Grant during the Civil War and Lincoln came as well. Apparently, a few months earlier, it was occupied by the south as well. Visiting there really means just getting out the house and walking around.
