My granddaughter and her dad live with us. They have a pitbull and she can smell the rat we have in our laundry room. If you tell her get the kitty she goes nuts trying to find it. I really don`t like pitbulls but she is a sweetie.

I know what you mean. My best friend has two, and they are sweet. However, I have always been afraid of them turning aggressive. My cousin was bitten by one when she was walking by a neighbors fence. I just jumped and bit her.
Animals are really good at keeping "critters" and bugs away. I know that I have had less issues with both since I got my dog about three years ago.
I really want to get the kids a dog, I just feel like it is a big responsibility. We used to have a dog and he died, that is the other issue, it is hard to deal with the loss of a pet. It is also hard to deal with a put turning aggressive.
