If for example your pet has a malignant disease and you can see that it is suffering from it, will you put the pet into permanent sleep or let it live with the condition it has?

We've been through this a number of times with several of our dogs and cats. One dog and 2 cats had kidney failure. We let them live until it became evident that their quality of life was not good then we had them put to sleep. One little girl, she was somewhere in her late teens, had a serious convulsion that the vet felt she would not recover from. He put her into an induced coma to see if her body would come back but it didn't so we let her go.
It's never an easy thing to do but we feel that if we really love them we'll let them go when their time comes. We just make sure that while they're with us they have the best life possible.
I'd much rather have an animal put to sleep than to see it suffer. But there might be a few tears at the time.
If he or she is suffering, it's time to put them down. If no pain, then I don't have a problem letting them live out their old age.
