My wife bought me a Makita 9.6V in 1988 or so. Quick charge and long battery life. I bought an extra battery and with one hour charging I was never without and it never let me down. It's retirement came when the reversing switch got loaded up with sawdust and it didn't want to run in forward all the time. I bought a Ryobi on sale at HD for $49 to replace it. I don't need it much, which is fortunate, since the battery life is shorter and charge time is 3 hours.
