Does anyone have any ideas or plans to make a motor driven water hose reel? This would be for my mother who's not very able to manually roll up a 100'+ of hose. I've seen the ones for sell that use water or batteries but they seem to be cheaply made and do not hold over 65' of hose. Thanks for any ideas.
They have decent quality metal hose reels for around $60-70 that hold 150+ feet of hose. You could remove the handle and replace it with a pully, then hook up a surplus electric motor to it with a belt.
Seems like the biggest problem you would have is having the hose go into the right spot on the reel. If that could be done by hand while the machine is running it seems like it would be pretty doable.
The other problem would be making it waterproof with the electric parts. You would definately want the motor sealed up pretty good. Some kind of plastic canister with a hole drilled in it for the shaft and another for the power could probably be made to work.
