Well the wild animal one would defintely work. We had a mountain lion kill a mule deer in the sand wash about 3 weeks ago. Ohh well she sent me a message and ask about her animals and I had to fess up. A picture or two and all is well for now.
The only obvious explanation? global warming! Was hit by a melting iceburg!
The iceberg came from Cleveland; ask them about global warming.

Well Keith thanks for the idea. But we have gone thru a few horses since that post. Still have the Friesian and am going this weekend to get a throughbred up in Prescott (yuk 600mile drive) but this post was back in April!!! Anyway welcome to the forum. Are you a horse person??

Had similar issue recently, but had no excuse. Took my daughter's 2 dogs (Weimaraner & German short-haired pointer) to our property with a large pond. While playing in pond, Weim cut his paw BAD. Stiches & $400+ vet bill later, I mentioned to my wife that we should probably pay the bill. "Well, it happened on YOUR watch", was her response. Guilt, guilt, guilt. 2 days later, Weim and pointer got into the Weim's pain medicine and ate the whole bottle!! Trip to vet $200+ for "toxic substance" treatment. Pointer's kidney tests not up to par. Follow up shows there are still issues. Pointer is on special diet. Guilt. Guilt.
By the way, we own a retired thoroughbred racehorse. Looking at the original pix on this post, our thoroughbred gets cuts/scrapes around the eyes and face a lot from "halter tag" with turn-out pals or rubbing on stall maybe. Wife usually just treats with betadyne(sic??) or some other medication. Haven't had to have stiches there YET. Problem is: horses are like kids, you can't get them to keep their wounds clean.
I used to be the person that vowed I wouldn't spend big money on medical bills for animals. But when you get attached to them critters, it's hard to say "no, just put them down", especially if they're young and healthy otherwise. Our 16 yr old mixed breed dog has cataracts, can hardly walk but she is perky and not in pain. Hasn't cost us much in vet bills, just routine stuff. If she starts to suffer or just can't get around anymore. it'll be off to the vet for 1 last time.
