I have sweet potato plants which are growing fantasticly and overgrowing my tomatoes. What will happen if I cut back the vines? Can I replant the portions that have rooted?

I've never cut any back before. I'd be afraid to try it but you could try one or two plants and see what happens. Is there a possibility you can move your tomato plants? Are they already blooming?
My tomato plants are in full bloom and fruiting. I am going to try cutting back and replanting. We had a deer attack last night, and judging from my string beans, that may not be a problem much longer.
Sweet potatoes grow on vines? Seriously? I have never planted them before, they are not something I like to eat. I know white potatoes grow in the ground (you till a hill and they live under it). I'm not going to be able to answer this question, but I did find it interesting.
